Welcome to Reception Class
where Miss Riley, Mrs Bashir and Miss Somers help us learn.
Our School Day
The school day is from 8:40am until 3:10pm.
Doors open from 8:35am in the mornings.
Uniform
Please make sure that children are in their uniform and that all items are labelled with their name. As the weather can be very changeable, it is important that they have a coat as we do play outside every day whatever the weather.
PE
Your child will need a PE kit including shorts, t-shirt and pumps - all with your child’s name on.
Children should bring their PE kit to school on Fridays. Getting dressed independently is an important skill to practise.
Book bag
Please make sure your child brings their book bag each day as they will have reading books and library books to take home and bring back everyday. In the morning the children put their book bag in their group box.
Snack
Every day the children can choose to have a healthy snack and milk or water to drink.
Phonics is the sounds that letters make. We are learning to hear the sounds in words and to link the sounds to letters. We learn phonics following the format of Read, Write Inc Phonics.
Literacy - Early Learning Goals (ELG)
Comprehension ELG
Children at the expected level of development will:
• Demonstrate understanding of what has been read to them by retelling stories and narratives using their own words and recently introduced vocabulary;
• Anticipate – where appropriate – key events in stories;
• Use and understand recently introduced vocabulary during discussions about stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems and during role-play.
Word Reading ELG
Children at the expected level of development will:
• Say a sound for each letter in the alphabet and at least 10 digraphs;
• Read words consistent with their phonic knowledge by sound-blending;
• Read aloud simple sentences and books that are consistent with their phonic knowledge, including some common exception words.
Writing ELG
Children at the expected level of development will:

• Spell words by identifying sounds in them and representing the sounds with a letter or letters;
• Write simple phrases and sentences that can be read by others.
Mathematics - Early Learning Goals (ELG)
Number ELG
Children at the expected level of development will:

including double facts.
Numerical Patterns ELG

• Explore and represent patterns within numbers up to 10, including evens and odds, double facts and how quantities can be distributed equally.
To help at home
Children are learning all of the time, everything they do and try to do helps them to develop. Here are some everyday activities that you do at home where your child is learning.
Helping to set the table.
Helping in the garden.
Reading or sharing books.
Helping with the laundry and tidying up. Count the items into the machine. Sort it into colours.
Shopping - looking for labels, helping to choose. Getting items and putting them in the basket.
